Water as a Power of Disaster

Will children survive after this disaster?
"As I 'm looking more and more at the pictures from the quake and tsunami disaster in southeastern Asia, I 'm thinking how irrational and disastrous power Water can be. I cannot tell who is responsible of this. I m' really wondering how much Humans have any part of guilt for this. I don't know what would be the consequences if this had happened in my country. I feel deep sorrow for the people who lost their lives without knowing what exactly happened, just in a few minutes. No, there is no time for sorrow. We can think deeply about human destiny on Earth in order to feel more human and, if it is possible, to help. And as teachers we can help teaching the environmental aspects of water hardships. We can help also teaching how human solidarity can make the wounds of the poor people so severely hurt less insufferable. And practically thinking organizing humanitarian activities in our schools for this purpose."
Stergios Nastopoulos, teacher in the 8th Unified Lyceum of Ioannina, Greece
